The NFL’s opening week will feature quite a few games of interest for fans — and some that will be not so interesting. Yes, seeing how Trevor Lawrence does in his first NFL game is relevant, but the game is against the Houston Texans. Regardless of how he plays, few are going to care about that one.
But there are a few games fans are going to care an awful lot about. You might even say they are the first “must-see” games of the year:
Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: This one has the potential to be a barn burner with two good quarterbacks piloting offenses stacked with talented weapons. Assuming both pick up where they left off last season, this one could be won by whoever has the ball last.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills: Ben Roethlisberger will want to prove he still has it and that the Steelers are still a team to be reckoned with. Josh Allen and the Bills will want to prove last season was not an aberration and that they are the new powerhouse in the AFC East.
New York Jets at Carolina Panthers: The game itself may not be the greatest, but who does not want to see Sam Darnold stick it to the Jets for giving up on him? At the same time, if you watched BYU play last season, you know you want to see Zach Wilson do his thing in the NFL.
And if you missed BYU last season, this would be your first chance to see what all the Wilson hype is about.
Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs: A win here would be an excellent way for the Browns to show they are a good team and they can compete. The pieces are in place, but can they put it together in Week 1?
As for the Chiefs, they will be eager to show the world what would have happened if Patrick Mahomes did not go down during their playoff game against the Browns last season.
Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints: The bulk of the drama will be over before kickoff because we will know if Aaron Rodgers is staying with the Packers or not. But then it will be interesting to see how the Saints try to start life after Drew Brees. Will it be Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston?
